Helen Holiday Half Marathon/10k
Saturday November 26th, 2016@8:00 am
Starts and finishes within Unicoi State Park

My name is Sean Blanton, and I am the race director for the 4th annual Helen Holiday Half Marathon/10k. We get between 400-600 people each year for this race, and the race starts and finishes in Unicoi State Park. This year, however, we will be doing something different by running folks through beautiful and vibrant downtown Helen.

It is anticipated that runners will come through downtown Helen between8:30 and 10:30 am. We would like to get as many local businesses and people involved as possible, but we do not want money or goods. We would love to have people cheering, lining the streets, waving signs, dressed up in costumes, and the like.

We have 2 distances for our race a 13 mile half marathon and and 6 mile (10k) race. ONLY the 13 mile race runs through town, and NO ROADS WILL BE CLOSED. Each year we get over 20 states represented. We usually sell out 90% of the lodging in town and at Unicoi. Many of our runners bring their families and friends and make a weekend of the occasion. We want to advertise your businesses to the runners so that they can get the most out of their stay in Helen. If you guarantee 5 people to cheer and/or direct runners in town we will put you on the shirts, the website and plug your business on all the race emails.

We have a massive start/finish area on Bottom Rd within Unicoi State Park. We have a costume contest, food, beer for purchase, bounce houses, the REAL live Santa Claus, a DJ and much more. You could be out there advertising your business and meeting new customers. You would not be able sell things, but you can set up a tent with giveaways, info about your business, collect email addresses, and do general marketing. If you wish to do this, we would like you to provide a couple of people to cheer folks on.

This race alone brings over $100,000 spent locally the weekend of the race. We would like to get the local community more involved and behind this race so we can build it even more and get people into the area and spending money at Helen's businesses. As someone who participates in races all over the world, I can tell you that what brings people back is the vibe to an event. When local communities get involved, you feel special. You feel warm and welcomed, and we would love our runners to feel all of these things as they kick off a season of family and celebration.

Your support is greatly appreciated! If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask!

Take care,
Sean Blanton
