GHAA Art and Fine Crafts is a new Helen art gallery located in the Alpine Villages Shoppes. The gallery is a project of the non-profit Georgia Heritage Arts Association (GHAA) and is a branch of Georgia Heritage Association Center for the Arts (GHCA) which boasts a twelve year tradition of fostering and promoting Georgia artists. Gallery days and hours will be based upon seasonal activity in the area. For present hours check the website http:www.ExperienceGeorgiaArts.org Work currently exhibiting in the gallery provides a range of Georgia’s talented artists as well as the historic progression of art in Georgia. From the heritage art of weaving on the loom and spinning at the wheel to dichotic glass and precious metal clay jewelry, artists have found ways to embrace today’s technologies to create original yet personal expression. Even the impersonal computer has been brought into play to enhance what photographer Celia Durant has found in nature. Potters works also abound in the gallery, each differently interpreting their material, while wearable art artists have many mediums and forms to express their unique designs. Many of the exhibiting artists will be demonstrating during open hours. Peggy Renfro and Lynn Johnson will be weaving and spinning and Linda Lloyd will be metal-smithing, while Ruth Ann Landa paints some of her favorite local critters. Jaymi Hampton will be working precious metal clay into original works of jewelry, or joining Patti Petit to “play” in the clay.

We make many different items from gourds here, both beautiful and whimsical, including planters, containers, toys, and ornaments; we also sell plain gourds for do-it-yourselfers. In addition to gourds, we now feature our patented Gourd Impressions pottery. Using gourds as molds, we make functional and decorative stoneware and porcelain items.

Located at the Old City Hall in Helen, HAHC is a non-profit organization that promotes appreciation of the arts and local history through educational instruction, workshops, exhibits and participation with other councils and organizations within and without Georgia. It consists entirely of volunteers and has been able to provide a variety of classes including oil, acrylic, watercolor, drawing, pottery, collage, jewelry, basketry, scarf painting and others.

In our Museum, you will see the biggest collection of tarantulas- about 30 different big hairy spiders, scorpions, lizards, 3ft long iguana, and also 10ft long albino Burmese Python! You will see the biggest, most beautiful venomous and rare tarantulas from South America, Africa and Asia. You will learn lots of interesting facts about arachnids and you will see a great documentary about tarantulas in the wild!
