The Amish Red Barn features original Amish handmade furniture, crafts and artwork from Pennsylvania and Ohio. The many items found here include handmade quilts, rocking horses, mailboxes, children's wagons, handpainted wood decorative items and one of the area's largest selection of Hex signs. Furniture handmade of solid oak, hickory and oak and solid cherry is also available. Inventory includes single and double gliders, rockers, dining tables and chairs, side tables, benches and saddle stools. Many other furniture items are available by special order.

The owner, Charles Timko, is a native of Pennsylvania and lived and worked among the Amish community for forty years. Contacts developed with Amish craftsmen provide him with access to authentic Amish made items not available to the general public. He insists on verifying that items are Amish-made before offering any merchandise for sale.

Located 6 miles east of Helen and and 8 mile north of Clarkesville on Highway 17, The Amish Red Barn is housed in an 1899 farmhouse purchased by Charles in 1997. Charles restored the house prior to opening the store in 1998. To complete the farm, Charles built a red barn with a silo next to the house and name the store The Amish Red Barn.

A recent addition to The Amish Red Barn's offerings is a line of high quality gazebos. Delivery and set-up is included within a 25 mile radius of the store.

Cheesecakes made by special order upon request.

The Amish Red Barn is open year round on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from Noon - 3PM, and other times by appointment only.

The Black Forest Bear Park is located on Main Street in Helen, Georgia. The owners of the park have over 10 years of experience in breeding and keeping these wonderful animals alive. Many of our bears would be destroyed because of no more use in circuses or they are troubled bears, such as raiding campgrounds.

This park educates people about many different species of bears, besides just the black bear, commonly found in the state of Georgia. Some of the species you will observe are, of course, the American Black Bear (Ursus Americanus), Grizzly Bear (Ursus Arctos), Himalayan Bear (Selenarctos), Syrian Brown Bear (Ursus Arctos Syriarcus), and others. At each exhibit there is a map showing where they live and some detailed information about each species. It is educational and fun for the entire family. Not only do you get to see these magnificent animals up close, but you get to feed them as well.

The reptile exhibit, also located on the premises, has numerous types of large snakes for observation. Our North American exhibit shows all the poisonous snakes found in this country along with many larger snakes of the world! Here again all snakes have educational material of where they are found, their size, and much more!
